Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA, PVOH, PVAL) is a type of plastic made from combining ethylene and alcohol. PVA is different from other synthetic plastics, can be decomposed by microorganisms and water in the natural environment without contain harmful substances. It eventually turns into CO2 and H2O, making it an excellent choice for environment packaging. By adjusting how it's made, we can change its properties. Since PVA dissolves in water, we don't need to use a lot of harsh chemicals during production, making it a greener option.

PVA has a high water solubility and chemical stability. When made into a film, it has high transparency, strength and flexibility. It is widely used in many areas, such as industry, agriculture, household cleaning, food packaging, and medical. Here are some common examples of its applications:

1. Water Transfer Film
PVA has high transparency, provide vivid, high-resolution image printing, and has good solvent resistance. The pattern will not be damaged during the printing process. PVA film can dissolve quickly in water, transferring printed patterns from the film to the surface of an object.

2. Embroidery Backing Film
The material is used as a base during embroidery to keep fabric stability and avoid stretching or tearing. Due to the PVA film dissolves in water, after finish embroidery, just rinse with water to remove it completely, leaving no residue.

3. Laundry Bag
The bag is made of two materials, HDPE and PVA. The outer layer made of HDPE is tough and doesn't easily break, and it also has good barrier properties. The inner layer made of PVA can dissolve quickly when exposed to water, which can effectively prevent secondary pollution.

4. Laundry Ball
Thin films dissolve in water quickly and release detergent, reducing detergent overuse and contributing to environmental protection.

5. Seed Packaging Bag
PVA improves soil aggregation, air permeability and water retention through the glue formed after being dissolved in water. It not only protects seeds but also improves soil water retention.

6. Water-soluble Bag with Pesticide
Water soluble polyvinyl alcohol resin (PVA), when combined with additives, can effectively improve chemical resistance. It is particularly effective for packaging halogen series fungicides and pesticides. Pesticide emulsifiable concentrate, conventional detergents, ordinary non-aqueous chemicals, and water soluble fertilizers can also be packaged in PVA or directly packaged.

7. Solid PVA Fishing Bags
The water-soluble PVA film is suitable for freshwater and seawater. It melts and decomposes immediately after entering water. When putting the bait into the bags, add a few small stones to let it sink to the bottom faster. It will make the bait dissolve slowly and attract the fish in long-lasting.

8. Food and Medical Packaging
The oxygen permeability coefficient of PVA is the lowest among various plastic films which is the best at resist oxygen and other gases in dry conditions helps protect products.
